    1. How does immersion cooling work?

    Immersion cooling works by submerging computer components—such as ASICs, GPUs, or CPUs—directly into a thermally conductive dielectric liquid. Unlike traditional air or water cooling, this non-conductive fluid absorbs heat from the hardware and transfers it to a secondary cooling system, such as a heat exchanger or dry cooler. This process allows for efficient heat dissipation, quieter operation, and stable performance even under heavy loads.

     

    2. Is liquid immersion cooling better than liquid cooling?

    Yes, liquid immersion cooling is generally more efficient than traditional liquid cooling systems. In conventional liquid cooling, coolant flows through tubes or cold plates attached to the components. However, immersion cooling eliminates these interfaces by directly surrounding all components in cooling fluid, resulting in superior thermal efficiency, reduced component wear, and lower maintenance costs. It’s especially beneficial for crypto mining farms, data centers, and AI servers that generate high heat output.

     

    3. What liquids are used in immersion cooling?

    The liquids used in immersion cooling are dielectric fluids, which do not conduct electricity. Common types include synthetic hydrocarbons, mineral oils, fluorocarbon-based liquids, and engineered fluids like 3M™ Novec™ or Shell Immersion Cooling Fluids.     Immersion cooling is highly effective, offering up to 90–95% heat removal efficiency compared to air cooling systems. It enables higher hardware density, longer component lifespan, and energy savings of up to 30–40% in power usage effectiveness (PUE). For large-scale crypto mining operations, immersion cooling not only reduces energy costs but also improves hashrate stability and allows for year-round operation in varying environmental conditions.
